Glisten & Glow: The Hunting Wives Inspired Collection

(This collection, in addition with the Glisten & Glow Top Coat and Glitter Smoother, was gifted to me in exchange for swatch photos; all thoughts are my own)

Hi everyone! I have swatches of Glisten & Glow’s upcoming collection to share today. This is a 12-piece polish collection inspired by the Netflix show, “The Hunting Wives”, in collaboration with nail swatcher Jess (@polished_jess). The full collection is currently available for preorder on glistenandglow.com.

I had not heard of “The Hunting Wives” until I was sent this collection. Since swatching 12 polishes takes a while, I had some time to watch it! This show was sexy, campy, and such a fun summer murder mystery, and I highly recommend it.

This cohesive collection features three classy cremes, two sister crellies, a few glitter bombs, and gorgeous “kitchen-sink” sparkly lacquers.

This will be a long post, so make some coffee or tea, strap your boots on, and let’s go!

Sweet Southern Sabotage

Sweet Southern Sabotage is a medium teal creme polish with green undertones.
My manicure is 2 coats with the Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

Application Recommendations:

  • Coats: 2-3; perfectly opaque in 2.
  • Top Coats: Your normal glossy or matte top coat.
  • Nail Art: Better as the background for nail art or a topper.
  • Time: Quick-drying. Great for a mani in a pinch!

I never thought of a teal polish being a great fall color until I wore this one. I could see this creme working well with a dark orange or brown flannel.

This polish is so close to being a one-coater polish, as it is almost perfectly opaque in just one coat. However, I could still see some of my nail line at extreme angles in one coat. With that said, there is no patchiness during application and it self-levels beautifully. The formula is buttery smooth and very easy to apply. It is also very fast drying and you can start your next coat after applying the first on all nails.

With respect to nail art, this polish can be used as a stamping color but it is not very opaque. Therefore, I think it works better as the base color to nail art, or with a topper instead.

EvilSumBishes

EvilSumBishes is a bold, vibrant, darkened purple creme polish.
My manicure is 2 coats with the Glisten & Glow Top Coat.

Application Recommendations:
  • Coats: 2-3; perfectly opaque in 2.
  • Top Coats: Your normal glossy or matte top coat.
  • Nail Art: Can be used as a stamping polish or the base manicure.
  • Time: Quick-drying. Great for a mani in a pinch!

Like Sweet Southern Sabotage, EvilSumBishes has a buttery smooth formula. This one was also almost completely opaque in one coat. Two coats has perfect coverage to obscure your nail line. Unlike the teal, this one is a great stamping polish and would also work as a great base mani for other nail art. It’s another gorgeous creme to add to your collection.

For those who have seen the show, this color feels like one that Callie would wear… let me know if you agree!

Please note that you can use the Glisten & Glow Top Coat for nail art as well! Say goodbye to multiple top coats for nail art. Just be sure that your nail art is dry and to “float” the top coat over the finished manicure.

Hush, Honey

Hush, Honey is a dark and vampy charcoal creme polish.
My manicure is 2 coats with the Glisten & Glow Top Coat.
Application Recommendations:
  • Coats: 1-3; opaque in 1!
  • Top Coats: Your normal glossy or matte top coat.
  • Nail Art: Can be used as a stamping polish or the base manicure.
  • Time: Quick-drying. Great for a mani in a pinch!

Shoooooot! This one is so charming. Hush, Honey has to be one of my favorites of the collection due to its rich color, great formula, and versatility.

Unlike the other two cremes, I found this one to be opaque in one coat! Coupled with its fast-drying formula and smooth application, it would be great for a quick manicure out the door. I did find this formula to be a bit less viscous than Sweet Southern Sabotage and EvilSumBishes, which resulted in some flooding of the cuticle area, but it was nothing that a clean-up brush couldn’t handle. It is also a good stamping polish like EvilSumBishes.

Do you like the “hunting” mani theme I tried here? Maybe it’s a bit on the nose…

Maple Brook Moss

Maple Brook Moss is an olive green crelly polish loaded with two types of color-shifting iridescent flakes that shift from pink/purple/orange and blue/green/yellow, and a reflection of green/blue shimmer.
My manicure is 3 coats with the Glisten & Glow Top Coat.
Application Recommendations:
  • Coats: 2-3
  • Top Coats: A thick, gel-like top coat. May want glitter smoother if any texture bothers you.
  • Nail Art: Great for the base manicure!
  • Time: Quick drying, but wouldn’t recommend for the car!

If you click on no other pictures in this blog post, please click on these sunshine ones at least! I was shocked to see the rainbows come out in Maple Brook Moss. Because of the rainbows – and the green base, duh – this is my other favorite in the collection.

I wore this polish in 3 coats which I didn’t feel was too much. I didn’t use any glitter smoother, but I can see it being useful here if feeling any texture at all bothers you. But, for a quicker mani, you can definitely get away with using one coat of a gel-like top coat!

Lakehouse Lies

Lakehouse Lies is a black jelly base loaded with holo, shimmers that shift blue/purple, and bright blue and holo microflakes.
My manicure is 3 coats with the Glisten & Glow Glitter Smoother and Top Coat.
Application Recommendations:
  • Coats: 2-3
  • Top Coats: Glitter smoother and top coat for the best sparkles!
  • Nail Art: There’s a lot going on, so simple nail art on top (if any)
  • Time: Longer mani if doing more than 2 coats and using glitter smoother

Say hello to more rainbows in the sun with Lakehouse Lies. This one is yet another polish in the collection with that buttery smooth formula, which I was not expecting considering how loaded it is with flakes. Now, with respect to its flake content, removal was a bit of a challenge even with nail clips.

Please note that I did experience some spot staining on one of my nails from a particularly large flake, but I think that was more of a random occurrence. Nonetheless, wear a good milky base coat to prevent staining even further.

Vodka & Cinnamon Gum

Vodka & Cinnamon Gum is a cranberry polish with color shifting shimmer that shifts pink/orange/red, with red holo microglitter and a shot glass full of holo flakes.
My manicure is 3 coats with Glisten & Glow Glitter Smoother and Top Coat.
Application Recommendations
Coats: 2-3; opaque in 2
Top Coats: Glitter smoother and top coat for the best sparkles!
Nail Art: Would be a good base for gold stamping
Time: Longer mani if doing more than 2 coats and using glitter smoother

Now that I’ve watched the show, this name is so polarizing to me! Ugh. If you know, you know… nonetheless, I am such a sucker for a dark red sparkly nail polish. This was the first I swatched and fell in love with it immediately. Although this is packed full with pretty glitters and flakes, removing it was a much easier process than I anticipated! No glitters were stuck all over my hands afterwards.

I tried some simple stamping over this polish with a gold stamping polish from Messy Mansion (purchased by me). I wouldn’t do nail art too elaborate over it as it would cover up the gorgeous glitters, but maybe someone else will and make it look fabulous!

Camo & Cowboy Boots

Camo & Cowboy Boots is a light and bright orange crelly loaded with color-shifting iridescent flakes that shift pink/red/orange/yellow, and shimmer that shifts pink/red/yellow, and green and black microflakes.
My manicure is 3 coats with the Glisten & Glow Top Coat.
Application Recommendations:
  • Coats: 2-3; perfectly opaque in 2.
  • Top Coats: Gel-like top coat; you may want glitter smoother if any texture bothers you
  • Nail Art: Fun and bright base manicure for nail art, but not required!
  • Time: Longer mani if doing more than 2 coats and using glitter smoother

This is such a fun nail polish, especially for Halloween coming up! It has a more fluid (less viscous) formula than I was expecting considering its dense flakey formula, so it applied beautifully. It’s completely opaque in 2 coats but I did 3 for more layering of the black flakes. I do not think glitter smoother is a requirement for this polish, but you may want it if any sort of texture bothers you.

I think doing a mani with this and its sister polish in the collection, We Don’t Work, We Wife, would be super fun! It would be like a more dynamic manicure if you love Dunkin Donuts, and it doesn’t require any nail art to make it interesting.

We Don’t Work, We Wife

We Don’t Work, We Wife is a bright pink jelly polish with two different types of color-shifting iridescent flakes that shift pink/purple/orange and blue/green/yellow, with black microflakes.
My manicure is 3 coats with Glisten & Glow Top Coat.
Application Recommendations:
  • Coats: 2; 3 coats will be too much.
  • Top Coats: Gel-like top coat; you may want glitter smoother if any texture bothers you.
  • Nail Art: Fun and bright base manicure for nail art, but not required!
  • Time: Longer mani if using glitter smoother

I am such a fan of bright pink polishes, and this one is no exception. This formula is definitely more viscous than its orange sister polish Camo & Cowboy Boots. I went up to 3 coats, but I wish I stopped at 2. It is just too full of glitters and will be too much on the nail – I ended up having some smudging from over-buildup on my right hand.

Queen Effin’ Bee

Queen Effin’ Bee is a clear-based glitter bomb loaded with red holo, red metallic and gold holo glitters in various sizes.
My manicure is 3 coats with Glisten & Glow Glitter Smoother and Top Coat.

Application Recommendations:
  • Coats: 2-3
  • Top Coats: Glitter smoother and top coat is a must.
  • Nail Art: Best as a topper!
  • Time: Dry time is quick but longer mani based on glitter smoother.

I can’t believe I waited this long to share the glitter bomb of the collection. Queen Effin’ Bee does not play and is a MUST for your nail polish collection. No ifs, ands, or buts. You will need a glitter smoother and top coat for this as the glitters are very textured, but it also adds so much to the sparkle. I wore it in 3 coats, which may be overkill… but is there such thing as too much of a good thing? I didn’t experience any bad over-buildup in 3 coats, so if you’re ~*extra*~ like me, I say go for it.

I Believe In Doing Whatever The F*ck I Want

I Believe In Doing Whatever The F*ck I Want is a black-based jelly polish loaded with various sized hex emerald glitters and holo flakes.
My manicure is 2 coats with Glisten & Glow Glitter Smoother and Top Coat.
Application Recommendations:
  • Coats: 2; I think 3 would be too much polish on the nail.
  • Top Coats: Glitter smoother and top coat is a must.
  • Nail Art: Could be a good base for nail art, but beautiful on its own.
  • Time: Dry time is quick, but is a longer mani based on glitter smoother.

This is what I would call the other glitter bomb in the collection! It is so sparkly in the sun, even in 2 coats. I think 3 coats would cause over-buildup on the nail as it’s not a very thin formula due to the glitters. However, using glitter smoother – which is a must – and top coat plump up the mani to look like gel!

Shop, Hunt, & Drink

Shop, Hunt, & Drink is a dark teal crelly polish with blue undertones, loaded with color-shifting shimmer that shift pink/purple/red/orange/yellow/green, with holo flakes and light blue reflective glitters.
My manicure is 2 coats with the Glisten & Glow Glitter Smoother and Top Coat.

I don’t know if I would call this one a dark teal… I see more slate blue than anything. But I’m not a nail polish maker. Regardless, I wasn’t expecting the rainbows I saw with this one (a running theme with this collection!).

I do love a thick manicure, but I stopped at 2 coats as it was perfectly opaque and didn’t feel the need to overbuild. The formula was also buttery smooth, which is such a nice surprise when it comes to reflective glitter formulas. Glisten & Glow gets a round of applause from me with this beautiful polish!

Sweet As Pie

Sweet As Pie is a plum purple jelly polish with color-shifting shimmers that shift gold/green and blue at extreme angles, and holo microflakes.
My manicure is 3 coats with the Glisten & Glow Top Coat.
Application Recommendations:
  • Coats: 2-3; depends on how light you want the purple base to be.
  • Top Coats: Whatever top coat you prefer!
  • Nail Art: Could be a good base for nail art, but beautiful on its own.
  • Time: Great for a mani in a pinch!

Last, but certainly not least in this collection, is Sweet As Pie. I struggle with polishes with gold shimmer as I feel it can clash with my skin tone, but I am a convert now! It looks totally royal with the deep purple base. It looks like it glows in the sun. The jelly formula is super easy to apply, too. All around a great shimmery beauty. You won’t need a glitter smoother here, and I think it would look really cool with a matte top coat.

In terms of nail art, I did some gold stamping on it to see how it would play up against the gold shimmer, and it did not disappoint! I think you could go more elaborate or simple in your nail art, making it a versatile shimmer.

Whew! That was a marathon of swatches and thoughts. If you’ve read through it all, thank you for joining me for my first blog post. I have genuinely enjoyed this collection, and Glisten & Glow may have actually made me change my opinion on black microflakes in polish (it reminds me of vanilla flecks in ice cream).
